Chicalim Bio-Crusaders have successfully documented over 70 local and migrant birds found in the forests of the villages of Chicalim-Dabolim-Sao Jacinto. Lyndon Andrade, Vishal n Svetozara Meghnani and Priya Kamat have helped us in this task by identifying the birds. Local names have been provided by Sylvester D’Souza.

A variety of fishes are found abundantly in the Chicalim Bay and the various ponds that are located in the Chicalim village. Our Chicalim bay is also a natural breeding ground for the window -pane oysters as well as for various other shellfishes.
Butterflies add colour to our biodiversity and we have plenty of them making our lives and environment colourful and lively. Our village has abundant number of them living freely and making merry.

Chicalim Bio-Crusader members carried out a sustained campaign from 2022-23 to document the wild flowers of Chicalim. We are proud to declare that we have managed to document over 200 species of wild flowers from the wild areas of Chicalim, Dabolim and Sao Jacinto Island. Our members took the pain to zealously locate and photograph this collection. This may qualify as the only such type of community effort carried out anywhere in the world on a voluntary basis. Prof. Hector Andrade helped identify all the wild and local flowers with their scientific names.

Chicalim is blessed with a variety of animals that roam its forested areas and hills.
